Last week the WSJ featured an article tauting the virtues of speed dating interviews. Small companies looking for new hires are overwhelmed with resumes'. These companies are trying creative methods to find the best applicants. Careful hiring procedures, using personality tests and 10 min screening interviews conducted by a team of consultants, assists the employer hire only the best candidate. There are companies blooming who do nothing but help the small employer employ only the finest.
Today's Wash Post had a similar approach to women mentors. An article by Mary Jordan described Alpha women mentoring other women:
"What was unusual was the format: 10-minute speed dating encounters with the Alphas. 'Minute mentoring' as it was called, looked like the first McDonald's wisdom drive through."
..."This event was the idea of Dana Perino, press secretary to former President George W Bush. Young women are hungry for advice on how to succeed and women who have climbed the ladder want to help, but time is precious...Perino set the clock and asked the bipartisan group of stars to quickly impart their top tips."
You know that we have been interested in the science of global warming.
We've been waiting to see what informed critics might say about the emails released after someone hacked into a computer at the University of East Anglia's Hadley Climatic Research Centre. First of all, were the emails genuine? It is now evident they are.
The emails are from major and minor British and American global warming scientists. They paint a disturbing picture of politics and grant money manipulating the facts of climate science. Attorney John Hinderaker of Powerline examines what the emails say.
In the circumstances, here are some summaries of the CRUgate files. I'll update these as and when I can. The refs are the email number.

Guess who was Homeland Security advisor on Obama transition team
Almost too difficult to believe, but his name is right
there in the document!
Nidal Hasan, was Homeland Security advisor on Obama transition team
(He was a participant and is listed on Page 29)
Now we have a little insight into why Obama said to not jump to
conclusions about Nidal Hasan.
The WSJ reports that the “Hadley Climate Research Unit in Britain was hacked yesterday, apparently by Russian black hats, and thousands of sensitive documents, including emails from climate scientists dating back a decade, were posted online.”
Some of the old emails from scientists made public apparently make references to things like “hid[ing] the decline,” referring to global temperature series and different ways to slice and dice climate data.
In all, it seems there are more than 3,000 files in the hacked folders, which have been reposted in various places on the Internet.
The big Copenhagen summit had lost a lot of its appeal in recent days, as world leaders kept dialing down expectations for the climate talks. Maybe this will spice things up.
James Delingpole at the Telegraph thinks it may be “the final nail in the coffin of ‘Anthropogenic Global Warming’” but adds “there are too many vested interests in AGW, with far too much to lose either in terms of reputation or money, for this to end without a bitter fight.”
Psychological Therapy 32 Times More Cost Effective at Increasing Happiness Than Money
ScienceDaily (Nov. 21, 2009) — Research by the University of Warwick and the University of Manchester finds that psychological therapy could be 32 times more cost effective at making you happy than simply obtaining more money. The research has obvious implications for large compensation awards in law courts but also has wider implications for general public health
