Columbia University students heckled a war hero during a town-hall meeting on whether ROTC should be allowed back on campus.

"Racist!" some students yelled at Anthony Maschek, a Columbia freshman and former Army staff sergeant awarded the Purple Heart after being shot 11 times in a firefight in northern Iraq in February 2008. Others hissed and booed the veteran.

Maschek, 28, had bravely stepped up to the mike Tuesday at the meeting to issue an impassioned challenge to fellow students on their perceptions of the military.

"It doesn't matter how you feel about the war. It doesn't matter how you feel about fighting," said Maschek. "There are bad men out there plotting to kill you."

    GADDAFI ON THE BRINK

    Good question

After Wisconsin, how do Democrats argue against a GOP government shutdown?

there is one god and Mohammed is his prophet

The simplest doctrine that ever gained acceptance.

    Left-Wing Violence in Texas

The terrorists who firebombed the Governor's mansion in Texas in 2008 are leftist activists:

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, an

Austin anarchist group was allegedly responsible for the 2008 Governor's Mansion molotov cocktail fire.
The group Austin Affinity was formed in 2001 and had dozens of local members. They worked with other affinity groups nationwide. Two members of the group were also linked to a thwarted fire bombing attack at [the] 2008 Republican Nation Convention.

The "mainstream" media meme that conservatives are the violent and unstable ones is ringing about as true as Al Gore's global warming predictions.

    Egypt's Moslems

Egyptian journalist and women’s issues advocate Mona Eltahawy was a guest on this week’s  ‘Real Time with Bill Maher‘. Her conversation with Bill and her participation on the subsequent panel had Americans tweeting and making comments on Facebook about her.

Maher stated that 82% of Egyptians believe that stoning is adequate punishment for adultery; 84% favor the death penalty for those who leave Islam (as their religion) and 64% believe that Shariah law should be the only legislative method for the country. Another statistic that was omitted, but which I have followed for many years, is that 97% of Egyptian women are genitally mutilated. Though Egypt did pass legislation against the practice of FGM, it is still widely practiced nationwide.

    Let’s review:

    • 82% of Egyptians believe that stoning is adequate punishment for adultery
    • 84% favor the death penalty for those who leave Islam (as their religion)
    • 64% believe that Shariah law should be the only legislative method for the country
    • 97% of Egyptian women are genitally mutilated.

    Governor Walker's Budget Repair Bill

Here's what Governor Walker's Budget Repair Bill that they're so angry about actually does:

    - Ask government workers to pay half the cost of their pensions - still less than private employees pay for their pensions

    - Ask government workers to pay 12% of their own health insurance premiums - the national average for the private sector is over 20%

    - End collective bargaining for government unions for pensions and benefits. Allow bargaining only for raises that are less than inflation.

    - End forced union dues, collected by the state. Union dues would become voluntary.

    - Union members get to vote yearly on whether to keep their union.

Last Surviving Female World War I Veteran Celebrates 110th Birthday

Florence Green, the world’s last surviving female veteran of World War I, and one of only three people still alive from that war, celebrated her 110th birthday yesterday.

Hailing from King’s Lynn, Norfolk, Green joined the Women’s Royal Air Force to fight in the world conflict when she was 17 years old in the summer of 1918. At 110, Green will now follow that honor by joining a highly exclusive club of “supercentenarians.”

    Not backing down

Asked on CNN's "State of the Union" by host Candy Crowley whether the U.S. is looked at differently than under his tenure, Rumsfeld replied, “I don't think there's data that supports that.”

"I think [Obama] has made a practice of trying to apologize for America," Rumsfeld said.

Rumsfeld also downplayed Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize.

“He had not accomplished a thing when he got the Nobel Prize. It was given to him on hope,” Rumsfeld said. “He'd been in office 15 minutes.”

Picasso's Buste de Femme (image from Radio Netherlands Worldwide)

The painting will go on loan from Eindhoven

Palestinian art lovers are to get a rare chance to view a Picasso when the painting goes on display in April, on loan from a Dutch museum.

Eindhoven's Van Abbe Museum is lending the 1943 canvas Buste de Femme to the Ramallah international art academy, Radio Netherlands Worldwide reports.

A film is due to be made of the painting's journey, including the Israeli border and other checkpoints.

A special, temperature-controlled room is being prepared to house it.

It is believed to be the first time a Picasso masterpiece will go on display in the Palestinian territories.

The "Picasso In Palestine" exhibition is a joint project between the Van Abbe and the Ramallah academy.

Other works in the Eindhoven museum's collection include pieces by Kandinsky and Mondrian, and paintings by Dutch artists such as Isaac Israels and Carel Willink.

12,000 Workers Facing Ax in Wis.

Up to 12,000 state employees may lose their jobs without a budget deal, Wisconsin governor warns

The Two Reasons Muni Investors Should Be Terrified By What’s Going On In Wisconsin.

“The first is that nobody had Wisconsin on its list of big states to worry about going into the new year. That’s not to say Wisconsin is going to blow up, but it does suggest that things can and do come out of nowhere all the time. You know, black swans and stuff.

The other reason it’s worrisome is that it shows just how far the Democratic party will go to the mat for public employee unions, and how hard it might be to cut costs. A bull case for munis has centered on the idea that there’s plenty of room to cut expenses, before having to default on debt. But if this debate is ripping apart a state like Wisconsin, then it should make you question that assumption.”
