Arianna writes a retraction

Arianna Huffington's liberal-leaning Huffington Post was forced to write a retraction Tuesday after alleging that conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart doctored a video clip from a White House press briefing in order to make it look like CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell was unhappy about the recent debt compromise during an exchange with White House press secretary Jay Carney.

How bad has O made this recession from prior ones?

Oil Sands are a coming thing.

New Process Could Make Canadian Oil Cheaper, Cleaner. “New technology for extracting oil from oil sands could more than double the amount of oil that can be extracted from these abundant deposits. It could also reduce greenhouse-gas emissions from the process by up to 85 percent. . . . Canada’s oil sands are a huge resource. They contain enough oil to supply the U.S. for decades.”

Palin makes the Bill Ayers/B.Obama connection and she is correct

Speaking about the “terrorist” rhetoric employed against tea partiers during the debt-deal debate, Sarah Palin said that President Obama “wouldn’t have a problem” with tea partiers if they were “real domestic terrorists.”

“If we were really domestic terrorists, shoot, President Obama would be wanting to pal around with us, wouldn’t he?” Palin told Fox News host Sean Hannity last night.

“I mean he didn’t have a problem with paling around with Bill Ayers back in the day when he kicked off his political career in Bill Ayers’s apartment, and then shaking hands with [Hugo] Chavez and saying he doesn’t need any preconditions with meeting dictators or wanting to read U.S. Miranda rights to alleged suspected foreign terrorists,” Palin added.

New Yorkers Fleeing State

Taxed-out New Yorkers are voting with their feet, with a staggering 1.6 million residents fleeing the state over the last decade.

For the second consecutive decade, New York led the nation in the percentage of residents leaving for other states, according to the report by the Empire Center for State Policy.

Free cell phones for the needy

5.5 million Pennsylvanians qualify for this program.

Sharron Walters could not afford one more monthly bill.

But without a phone, it would be difficult for Walters, who relies on a wheelchair, to secure rides to and from her daily errands. She also could not keep in touch with her son, who lives out of town.

Three months ago, Walters, 48, of Swissvale started using Assurance Wireless, a program of Sprint subsidiary Virgin Mobile that provides free cell phones and 250 monthly minutes to people receiving government support such as Medicaid or food stamps.

"The service they provide is just truly a blessing," she said.

In Pennsylvania, two programs offer free cell service: Assurance Wireless and SafeLink from Tracfone Wireless, which specializes in "no-contract" cellular service. The federal Universal Service Fund, which all telecommunications providers support as required by federal law, pays for the programs.

Free food, free cell phones, subsidized housing, somebody else paying for government--why work?

What Debt Crisis? Obama Partying With Millionaires and Corporate Jet Owners at Lavish Birthday Fundraiser

AP File
By Paul Bentley, Daily Mail

With hindsight, a low-key dinner with close family and friends would probably have been more appropriate.

But the small matter of a multi-trillion dollar debt crisis was not going to stop President Barack Obama pulling out all the stops for his birthday party.

The incompetence of liberalism's legacy

George Will:

The debt-ceiling impasse has, as things generally do, ended, and a post-mortem validates conservatives’ portrayal of Barack Obama and their dismay about the dangers and incompetence of liberalism’s legacy, the regulatory state.

For weeks, you could not fling a brick in Washington without hitting someone with a debt-reduction plan — unless you hit Obama, whose plan, which he intimated was terrifically brave, was never put on paper. In a prime-time spill of his usual applesauce about millionaires, billionaires and oil companies, he said, yet again, that justice demanded a “balanced” solution — one involving new revenue

It is appalling. COnservatives read more, watch more sources of info and are far better than Libs on current events. But Libs know in their bones they are entitled to be in charge.

“Terrorist,” “racist,” “uncivil,” “insane,” the list goes on–in this context, these words have no real meaning. They are mere epithets. The Obama presidency has reduced the liberal left to an apoplectic rage. His Ivy League credentials, superior attitude, pseudointellectual mien and facile adherence to lefty ideology make him the perfect personification of the liberal elite. Thus far at least, he has been an utter failure both at winning public support and at managing the affairs of the nation.
Obama’s failure is the failure of the liberal elite, and that is why their ressentiment has reached such intensity. Their ideas, such as they are, are being put to a real-world test and found severely wanting. As a result, their authority is collapsing. And if there is one thing they know deep in their bones, it is that they are entitled to that authority. They lash out, desperately and pathetically, because they have nothing to offer but fear and anger.

Why Diets Don't Work: Starved Brain Cells Eat Themselves, Study Finds

ScienceDaily (Aug. 2, 2011) — A report in the August issue of the Cell Press journal Cell Metabolism might help to explain why it's so frustratingly difficult to stick to a diet. When we don't eat, hunger-inducing neurons in the brain start eating bits of themselves. That act of self-cannibalism turns up a hunger signal to prompt eating.
